“Although newly retired, the passion Doug has for insurance & our community is still as strong as ever!”
You never know when some kind of unexpected event will happen in this game called life, so Doug loves helping people figure out a strategy for winning the big game. Doug started his insurance career in 1977, working for Daniel Putnam, grandson of the founder Walter L Putnam, who started the agency in 1931. He began in customer service, answering questions and concerns for clients about their car or home insurance, and quickly moved through all areas of agency operations. In 1984 he became an equity partner in the agency, and was agency President from 1992 – 2019.
He attained the professional designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU©) from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters in 1989. The CPCU Society is a community of credentialed property and casualty insurance professionals who promote excellence through ethical behavior and continuing education. This in-depth program requires passing rigorous undergraduate and graduate level examinations, meeting experience requirements, and agreeing to be bound by a strict code of professional ethics.
Doug is a graduate of Alfred University, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. He is a lifelong member of the Dunkirk and Fredonia community, a graduate of Dunkirk High School, and is the former Chairman of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Dunkirk Rotary Club and participates in just about every community event we have in the area!
He loves spending his summers in Chautauqua County with his wife, Carol. They enjoy traveling, cooking, golfing, and cheering for the Buffalo Bills! Most of all Doug & Carol are proud of and enjoy spending time with their three grown children, Sean, Carly, and Patrick, and twin grandkids, Charlie & Caroline.
