Doug Mahany, CPCU
President, Putnam Record Insurance Agency
Licensed Insurance Agent

Doug Mahany loves the insurance business! He loves helping people protect the things that matter most in their lives, like their family, their house, car, boat, and their business. You never know when some kind of unexpected event will happen in this game called life, so Doug loves helping people figure out a strategy for winning the big game. Doug started his insurance career in 1977, working for Daniel Putnam, grandson of the founder Walter L Putnam, who started the agency in 1931. He began in customer service, answering questions and concerns for customers about their car or home insurance, and quickly moved through all areas of agency operations. In 1984 he became an equity partner in the agency, and has been agency President since 1992.

He attained the professional designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU®) from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters in 1989. The CPCU Society is a community of credentialed property and casualty insurance professionals who promote excellence through ethical behavior and continuing education. This in-depth program requires passing rigorous undergraduate and graduate level examinations, meeting experience requirements, and agreeing to be bound by a strict code of professional ethics. Working with Doug Mahany and the rest of the staff at the Putnam Record Insurance Agency means you can be assured that your insurance solutions will be on-par with the latest best-practices in the insurance industry, and that you are working with a professional staff, focused on your best interests.

Doug is a graduate of Alfred University, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. He is a lifelong member of the Dunkirk and Fredonia community, a graduate of Dunkirk High School, and is the former Chairman of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Dunkirk Rotary Club and participates in just about every community event we have around here!

He loves living in Chautauqua County with his wife Carol, and they enjoy traveling, cooking, golfing, sailing and cheering for the Buffalo Bills! He has three grown children, Sean, Carly, and Patrick, and is proud of the accomplishments they continue to make in their careers.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about your insurance, Doug will be your advocate and help you get that awesome feeling that “every little thing’s gonna be allright!”

Sean Cornelius
Licensed Insurance Agent, Personal and Business Lines

Sean has insurance in his blood. Both his father and grandfather were in the insurance industry, so it’s no surprise that he follow in their footsteps to practice the art of protecting and caring for people’s personal property. What is surprising is that Sean comes to us by way of sunny Florida. He has over 6 years experience as a claims adjuster, working on the insurance company side before switching over to the agency side, so he shares some of his experience and inside secrets with us. He has some great stories about handling catastrophe and non-catastrophe loses for both personal and commercial lines, including claims for Hurricanes Jeanne, Frances, and Katrina. He has also handled claims for tornadoes, sewer backup and drain damage, water damage, damage from hailstones, and vehicle damage. Sean has worked all over the country, from Texas, Illinois, Kentucky, and Florida, and returns to his home base of Western New York, because the people here are the best! He has done insurance underwriting work from behind a desk and out in the field, seeing first-hand the physical and psychological damage that happens when disaster strikes. So he uses his knowledge and experience to work for the Putnam Record Insurance Agency to help inform people what they need to be prepared for with their insurance, so you don’t have any nightmares when it happens to you. Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Saint Bonaventure University (Go Bonnies!), and is a licensed Property and Casualty Agent for the state of New York, for both personal and commercial lines and a Licensed New York State insurance broker. Bill Smith
Licensed Insurance Agent

Bill might just be the friendliest people person you’ll ever meet. He loves to meet new people and brings a lot of fun to what many people consider to be the “boring” insurance industry. Bill has been having “fun” with insurance since he started in 1980. He worked in various capacities and made his way to become the owner of his own agency, The Record Agency in Silver Creek, before he joined together with Doug Mahany to form the combined Putnam Record Insurance Agency. Bill’s friendly outgoing personality enables him to warmly interact with commercial customers and find ways to save them money on their insurance. Insurance rates are influenced by unknown risks, so the more he can find out any possible risks, the more he can work to reduce the premiums on insurance. Bill works in the commercial insurance division, and has become so experienced in restaurant insurance discounts that restaurant owners are recommending him to their friends, even if they are competitors!

Bill lives in the historic downtown area of Silver Creek NY with his collection of classic guitars. When he’s not working at the Putnam Record Insurance agency, Bill plays guitar and sings in several local bands like The Blast, US, Side Effects, and Last Call. Become a groupie of Bill’s and see how your business can save money on your insurance.

Kelly is a specialist of PERSONAL insurance. She knows everybody in town and seems to know everything that’s happening too. In other words, she’s connected! She says the best part of her job is the feeling of recognition and appreciation when her clients are happy with their insurance coverage.
